Course Description
Improve and share your skills while learning new techniques and making friends. This group is open to male and female knitters of all skill levels. You will have an opportunity to explore new methods of casting on and binding off, new stitch patterns, cables and colorwork. This SIG is appropriate for anyone who can cast on using any method and can knit and purl. While members enjoy working on their own projects, some hands-on homework will be assigned. Come join us as we tie ourselves in knots with this ancient craft.

Mary Ann Horky
Mary Ann Horky’s first knitting experience was as a teen when she began to knit a blanket made of many garter stitch squares. A bag of over 50 squares followed her many moves over the next 10 years. In her 20s she started taking knitting classes and since then has knit socks, scarves and about 10 sweaters. Her recent passion has been stranded color work. During her legal career she would sometimes knit while waiting to go into court, inspiring a colleague to mention Madame Defarge. Luckily, her clients did not suffer the same fate as the French aristocracy.
Lisa Schuldt
Lisa Schuldt considers herself to be an “Advanced Beginner” knitter. After knitting one scarf while in high school, she didn’t come back to the skill until about 18 months ago. Then, after knitting two scarves, she made herself a hooded sweater coat. Her confidence boosted, she has since completed more than seven pairs of slippers, and is currently working on a sweater for her husband that she began last year and had almost finished before deciding to rip it out and start again. "If it’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to be patient with myself. As my mom said when I made a scarf for my brother 50 years ago, 'You don’t want to give a gift that you feel the need to apologize for.'"
