Course Description

Earn the highest level of Lean Six Sigma expertise with our Master Black Belt program, where you’ll refine advanced skills to lead projects, mentor candidates and drive organizational excellence. This program equips you to overcome project roadblocks, apply leadership and project management principles, leverage emerging tools and ensure project portfolios align with strategic business goals, positioning you as a trusted leader in quality and process improvement.

Benefits and Learning Outcomes

  • Recall and define key Lean Six Sigma skills, tools and techniques essential for project implementation and improvement processes.   
  • Describe and explain common project roadblocks between Six Sigma class levels and emphasize strategies for their prevention or resolution. 
  • Apply project management and leadership principles to support and manage Lean Six Sigma projects effectively.   
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using relevant and emerging technologies/tools within Lean Six Sigma and program management environments.   
  • Analyze candidate projects to assess adherence to Six Sigma methodology and identify areas for improvement.   
  • Mentor and evaluate Six Sigma candidate projects, offering constructive feedback and correction of projects aligned with best practices and project guidelines.   
  • Assess Six Sigma project portfolios to ensure alignment with strategic business goals and quality objectives.   
  • Develop and execute strategies to resolve complex project issues and improve project outcomes.  

Prerequisites

  1. Black Belt Certification including project requirement – Copy of certificate and project submission required for Intake Process.  
  2. Experience leading and mentoring both Business Process (Qualitative/Categorical) and Manufacturing (Quantitative) Six Sigma Black Belt level projects for minimum of 2 years after Black Belt Certification.  
  3. Experience leading and mentoring Lean improvements, Kaizen or SMD events.  
  4. Completed a statistics course at the college level (or will attend UWM Six Sigma Statistics Refresher prior to Course).  
  5. Intake form completed and submitted with required certificate and project copy.  
  6. Provide a professional recommendation (on Intake form).  
  7. Obtain instructor acceptance of credentials and Intake.  

Who Should Attend

This program is designed for experienced Six Sigma professionals who are ready to advance their leadership and strategic impact. Ideal candidates have already earned their Black Belt certification and successfully completed project requirements, with at least two years of experience leading and mentoring both service- and manufacturing-based Black Belt–level projects. Participants should also have a background in guiding Lean improvements, Kaizen, or similar initiatives, along with prior college-level statistics coursework (or completion of the UWM Six Sigma Statistics Refresher). Admission requires submission of an intake form, a copy of your Black Belt certificate and project, a professional recommendation, and instructor approval.

Privacy Policy


Cancellation Policy

To cancel, log into your student portal, go to "Enrollment History," and select "Request Drop" next to the course. Refund eligibility depends on notice, course type, and fee:

  • 30+ days prior to start of course: Full refund.
  • 15-29 days prior to start of course: Refund minus a 25% administrative fee.
  • Less than 15 days prior to start of course: No refund.

Exceptions (No Refunds):

  • Osher Educational Travel/Go Explore and College for Kids & Teens courses.
  • Courses with a fee of $35 or less.
  • On-demand online courses after the student has accessed the learning environment.
  • Conferences/Special Events (specific policy will be in registration terms).
  • Special requests and non-course fee items (e.g., memberships, textbooks) are non-refundable.

If the School of Continuing Education cancels a course, a full refund will be issued.


Invoicing Policy

  • If "invoice full amount" is selected, payment is due 14 days before the course start.
  • Failure to pay by the due date may result in cancellation of your registration.
  • For Agency payments (AmeriCorps, DVR, MyCAA, etc.), contact sceinfo@uwm.edu for next steps.
  • Automated payment reminders will be sent until the balance is paid.

Third Party Expenses

The School of Continuing Education does not provide refunds for any expenses (such as travel, accommodations, or materials) incurred by students due to a course cancellation or a student's self-cancellation. We strongly recommend booking refundable/transferable travel and accommodations, and purchasing materials with a return window extending beyond the course start date.


Collections Policy

Participants who fail to make timely payments agree to pay all collection costs incurred by UWM (agency fees, legal fees, etc.) and any late fees. UWM may also certify the past-due balance to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and claim the total due against any refunds or payments owed to the participant.


Photography and Media Usage

The School of Continuing Education may take photographs, video, and other media during courses and events for educational, promotional, and advertising purposes. Virtual programs may be recorded for marketing and content sharing.


Conduct Information and Disciplinary Measures

No firearms or weapons are allowed on UWM property.

Participant conduct policies are based on the following UW System Administrative Codes, which may result in probation, suspension, or dismissal from all UWM functions:

  • UWS Chapter 14 – Student Academic Disciplinary Procedures
  • UWS Chapter 17 – Student Nonacademic Disciplinary Procedures
  • UWS Chapter 18 – Conduct on University Lands
