Course Description
A Death Cafe is a place for people of all ages to discuss issues related to death and dying. The goal is to support each other in normalizing talk about death, which is such an important part of life. This gathering is completely participant-led; there is no agenda. Martha Badger lives and works in Bay View (Milwaukee) Wisconsin. She completed her End-of-Life Doula Training through The Dying Year. Badger has been a registered nurse for 30+ years and a Reiki Master for 20 years. In this class, she hopes to raise community awareness about the role of the End-of-Life Doula and the importance of advance care planning. Badger hopes to raise community awareness about the role of the End-of-Life Doula and the importance of advance care planning. Badger also feels called to spread the word about sustainable, meaningful options that are available to all of us regarding end-of-life ceremony and ritual (e.g., funerals, burials/cremation).
Gil-Marie Janssen lives in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. She is a retired school counselor. She currently works at a local food pantry and volunteers at hospices. Gil has completed two different End-of-Life Doula trainings over the last several years. Gil believes that death is an important part of life, one that is often not talked about nor planned for enough. She is eager to support end-of-life dialogue, planning and being a support in various ways to people so that the mystery of life continues.
